What Is a Reiki Healer and What Can They Actually Help With? | Cressida Zoe
What is a Reiki healer?
A Reiki healer works with the body's energy field. The actual electrical, vibrational system that runs underneath the physical body. You may have heard about Traditional Chinese medicine where they talk about the meridens.
The word Reiki comes from Japanese: rei (universal) and ki (life energy). It's the same principle as chi in Chinese medicine, prana in Ayurveda, and what physics has been measuring in the bioelectrical field for decades. Every tradition that has looked closely at the human body has found the same thing: you are not just physical matter. You run on energy.
If you've ever had acupuncture, think about it similarly. Acupuncture uses fine needles along specific energy pathways in the body, called meridians, to restore flow where it's become blocked or depleted. Reiki works with the same underlying network. Although developed independently in Japan rather than through Chinese medicine, both traditions arrived at the same understanding: the body runs on energy, and when that energy flows freely, the body can do what it was designed to do. With reiki there are no needles required. Just hands, intention, and direct energetic connection.
When that energy is blocked or dysregulated, the effects show up everywhere. In your body. Your skin. Your sleep. The patterns you keep repeating over and over again no matter how much work you've done.
A Reiki healer helps your system release what it's been holding, without even realising, by creating the conditions for your own system to rebalance itself.
What does that actually feel like?
Most people notice their nervous system dropping from high alert within minutes. That effect alone is significant for women who are running on emergency mode most of the time, without even realising it.
During a session you might notice warmth or tingling, an emotional release, (sometimes tears) physical sensations in your body, or simply a moment to deeply exhale you didn't even know you needed.
Some changes are immediate. Others unfold over the days that follow. Better sleep. Clearer thinking. A stubborn pattern finally loosening its grip. A decision that you were unsure of that suddenly becomes obvious.
What can Reiki actually help with?
The list is long. But the things I see most consistently:
Stress and nervous system dysregulation. Chronic high alert is not just exhausting. It blocks everything else. Especially abundance and forward movement. Reiki is one of the fastest ways I know to bring the system back to a much more beneficial baseline. Your capacity increases, just from that.
Emotional patterns that won't change. If you've done therapy, journalling, coaching, and still feel like you're circling or repeating the same lessons, energy work often reaches what talk-based approaches can't. The body holds the imprint of - what the mind doesn't know how to release through words. I can see it and feel it when I tune into you and help it move through without you doing much at all.
Physical symptoms with no clear cause. Unexplained fatigue. Skin that flares with stress. Sleep that just won’t come, or does;t feel refreshing. The body speaks to us in symptoms when the underlying energy is out of alignment.
Life transitions. Perimenopause. Divorce. Becoming a mother. Losing one. The moments where who you were no longer fits. Energy work can be profoundly orienting in these times.
Ancestral patterns. Not everything you carry is yours. Some of it arrived through your motherline, handed down through generations of women who didn't have the tools or safety to clear it. This is some of the most significant work I do. And one of the reasons I learned how to do all the energy work I love, to give my children a clear slate to grow from!
Feeling disconnected from yourself. This is the one I hear often. "I don't feel like myself." "I've done everything and something is still missing." That gap is often energetic. And it responds to energetic work.
Does it work online?
Yes. Completely.
Energy is not limited by physical space. Online sessions are often reported as just as powerful as in-person, sometimes more so, because you're in your own environment and can go deeper.
I work with women across Australia and internationally via video call.
What happens after a session?
You'll notice things moving in the 24 to 72 hours that follow. Dreams. Emotions rising and releasing. Realisations. Physical sensations in your boy. Drink quality water. Rest if your body asks. The integration period is part of the healing.
